Michelle Thompson-Dolberry

Michelle is the President and Chief Fire Starter of EMDO Enterprises, a capacity building business consulting firm. EMDO specializes in providing non-profit, small and medium size organizations with the expertise and resources they need to solve business problems and achieve goals. The organization focuses on building capacity and teaming opportunities through strategic alignment, marketing initiatives and organizational design efforts. Its mission is to serve as an extension of a company’s leadership team in order to help guide the company to the ultimate level of its potential. She has also been named the American Express OPEN Advisor on Small Business Growth.

Prior to forming EMDO, Michelle was the Director of Customer Advocacy for American Express OPEN, where she spearheaded the strategic evolution of this influencer-based outreach initiative. The initiative was designed to elevate brand receptivity and awareness of small business products and services in targeted business segments. In this role, Michelle served as the face and voice of the brand, acting as a company media spokesperson and delivering varied speaking engagements.

In this role, Michelle provided education tools through programs and content, driven by strategic alliances with leading business associations. Specifically, she led the award-winning “Make Mine a Million $ Business Program,” inspiring women to reach one million dollars in revenue, co-founded with non-profit Count Me In. She is also the architect of OPEN’s first-ever public policy platform with Victory in Procurement for Government Contracts, designed to educate business owners on opportunities in government contracting and procurement.

This initiative is anchored by the award-winning “Give Me 5” program with non-profit Women Impacting Public Policy to educate women business owners on the opportunities available from the federal government and enroll them on the CCR, which served as catalyst for the passage of the Women’s Procurement Rule, the creation of the WOSB program and Teaming USA, which spurred creation of a pilot program under Small Business Jobs Act directing over $5 million in annual funding to support small business teaming efforts.

Prior to this role, Michelle had an accomplished career in Human Resources. She served as a Director of Human Resources at American Express, where she specialized in change management, employee engagement, talent development and leader effectiveness. Prior to joining American Express, Michelle gained additional HR experience in other financial services organizations, including Merrill Lynch and spent time living and working in London with Credit Suisse and Paris with Société Générale.

Michelle serves as consultant and advisor to a number of small businesses, both for profits and non-profits and has volunteered her time as a junior high school cheerleading coach teaching the virtue of teamwork and self-discipline as keys to success. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in French from the University of Pennsylvania and an Executive MBA from Penn State’s Smeal School of Business.

Theo Thompson

Director of Business Planning for EMDO Enterprises.

Theo Thompson joined EMDO Enterprises at its inception and currently serves as the Director of Business Planning for EMDO Enterprises. In this capacity, he is responsible for financial administration such as budgeting, managing, analyzing, and maintaining expenses for all clients. He organizes and coordinates team travel in an effort to increase efficiency and reduce costs. Theo also handles event logistics ranging from marketing outreach, audience acquisition and providing event analytics and insight.

Theo graduated from The Pennsylvania State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Telecommunications. After graduating, he served as the Marketing Communications Intern for Business Travel at American Express in New York City. His love for travel took him into the hospitality field, as he worked with the Marriott for almost six years. He started at the Marriott at the Philadelphia International Airport and then transferred to where he currently resides, San Diego, California. Theo started off as a Guest Service Representative then steadily climbed the ladder as a Rooms Controller, Front Office Supervisor, and ultimately Assistant Front Office Manager.
